Invasive micropapillary carcinomas account for 1–2 % of all invasive breast carcinomas. They are clinically aggressive cancers, commonly found as mixed lesions with NOS type and occur in the mid 50s.
Lymphotropism is a very characteristic feature of micropapillary cancer. There is high incidence of lymphovascular invasion with a predilection for axillary nodal metastasis.
Clinical Features
The most common presenting feature is a mass. Axillary lymph nodes may be involved.
Mammographic Features
Micropapillary cancers present as high-density irregular mass with spiculated margins and are often associated with microcalcifications. The microcalcifications represent an associated DCIS component. Multicentric or multifocal lesions are seen.
