Pain during ejaculation
Top-Quality Lindera Powder. This formula could dispel the Cold, warm the channel, harmonise the collaterals and relieve the genital pain or abdominal pain, as well as ejaculation pain. Chuan Xiong Radix Ligustici Chuanxiong 10g and Chuan Niu Xi Radix Cyathulae 10g could be applied in the prescription. If there is genital pain due to invasion of Cold-Damp, Qin Jiao Radix Gentianae Macrophyllae 10g and Du Huo Radix Angelicae Pubescentis 10g should also be combined with to eliminate Cold-Damp.
Angelica Four Rebellious Decoction. This formula can be used to warm the channel, dispel the Cold, promote the Qi circulation and relieve the pain. Wu Yao Radix Linderae 5g, Ju He Semen Citri Reticulatae 10g, Bing Lang Semen Arecae 10g, Chuan Xiong Radix Ligustici Chuanxiong 10g and Huai Niu Xi Radix Achyranthis Bidentatae 10g can be added to the prescription to relieve the ejaculation pain.
1. If there is a severe cold feeling in the genital region, add Wu Zhu Yu Fructus Evodiae 5g and Gao Liang Jiang Rhizoma Alpiniae Officinarum 10g to warm the channel and relieve the pain
2. If there is perineal pain, add Li Zhi He Semen Litchi 10g to regulate the circulation of Qi in the Liver channel and relieve the perineal pain
3. If there is pain in the lower abdomen or groin, add Yan Hu Suo Rhizoma Corydalis 10g and Xiao Hui Xiang Fructus Foeniculi 6g to warm the Lower Burner and relieve the abdominal pain
4. If there is severe testicle pain, add Chuan Lian Zi Fructus Meliae Toosendan 10g to regulate the circulation of Qi in the Liver channel and relieve the pain
5. If there is swelling of the scrotum, add Che Qian Zi Semen Plantaginis 10g to eliminate the Damp and reduce the swelling.
Tian Tai Wu Yao Wan Top-Quality Lindera Powder.
LR-3 Taichong, KI-10 Yingu, SP-9 Yinlingquan, BL-23 Shenshu and CV-3 Zhongji. Reducing method is used for LR-3, KI-10 and SP-9. BL-23 and CV-3 are needled with reinforcing method. These two points can be treated with moxibustion as well.
▪ LR-3, the Stream and Source point of the Liver channel, warms the channels and regulates the circulation of Qi.
▪ KI-10 is the Sea point of the Kidney channel. It may eliminate Cold, regulate the circulation of Qi in the Channel and relieve the pain.
▪ SP-9 is the Sea point of the Spleen channel. It may regulate the circulation of Qi and dispel Cold so as to stop the pain.
▪ CV-3 is the crossing point of the Directing Vessel and the three Yin channels of the foot. It is also the Front Collecting point of the Bladder. It can increase the activity of the Yang-Qi, warm the genitals and eliminate the External Cold in the Lower Burner.
▪ BL-23 is the Back Transporting point of the Kidney. It can eliminate the External Cold from the Kidney and warm the genitals.
LR-5 Ligou, LR-4 Zhongfeng, LR-6 Zhongdu, LR-8 Ququan, LR-12 Jimai, LI-4 Hegu, LU-7 Lieque and BL-64 Jingu, etc.
1. If there is perineal pain, add CV-2 and KI-12 to warm the channels and relieve the pain
2. If the testicles are painful, add LR-5 and SP-9 to regulate the circulation of Liver-Qi, harmonise the collateral and relieve the pain
3. If there is lower abdominal pain, add CV-4 and BL-25 to warm the channels and relieve the pain. CV-4 can be warmed by moxibustion
4. If there is a sharp pain with a contracting sensation, add CV-1 to remove External Cold and relieve the pain.
A 30-year-old man had been suffering with ejaculation pain for 4 days. He had suffered with acute urethritis the previous year, which was controlled by antibiotics. A week previously, after playing sport, he had taken a cold shower. The same night, the ejaculation pain had started. His family doctor gave him some painkillers. Two days later, however, the ejaculation pain returned. When he arrived at the acupuncture clinic, he had only a slight rigid sensation on his scrotum with a cold feeling. His tongue was pale with a white coating, and his pulse was superficial and tight.
Invasion of External Cold to the Liver channel. The key symptom of this case was the ejaculation pain. It was caused by a sudden cold shower after sweating, leading to the invasion of External Cold in the Liver channel through the opened skin pores. The white coating and the superficial and tight pulse were symptoms of the invasion of External Cold.
Warm the Liver channel, eliminate the External Cold and relieve the pain.

▪ Gui Zhi and Dang Gui promote the circulation of Blood and remove the stagnation of Qi from the Liver channel
▪ Bai Shao and Dang Gui nourish Blood and strengthen the Liver
▪ Gui Zhi and Xi Xin warm the Liver channel, dispel external Cold and relieve External symptoms
▪ Wu Zhu Yu and Xiao Hui Xiang warm the Liver channel and regulate the circulation of Qi in the channels, as well as relieving the pain
▪ Chuan Lian Zi regulates the circulation of Qi in the Liver channel and relieves the pain
▪ Gan Cao harmonises the actions of the other herbs in the prescription.
The patient used this herbal decoction daily. One week later the ejaculation pain was almost completely relieved. Then one more herb, Yan Hu Suo Rhizoma Corydalis 10g, was added to the prescription in order to increase the therapeutic effect. Two weeks later the ejaculation pain was definitely gone. Upon follow-up 2 years later he reported that after the treatment the pain did not return.
The main symptoms are ejaculation pain with a sensation of heat, which is aggravated by urination, with itching of the urethral orifice, and dark yellow urine with viscous secretion, red and swollen External urethral orifice of the penis. Other symptoms included restlessness, loose stool or constipation, lower abdominal pain, lower back pain, a bitter taste in the mouth, a yellow and sticky tongue coating and a wiry and slippery pulse.
Clear the Heat, eliminate the Damp and relieve the pain.
Gentiana Draining the Liver Decoction. This formula could clear the Heat, eliminate Damp and relieve the ejaculation pain. Xiao Ku Cao Spica Prunellae 10g, Chuan Niu Xi Radix Cyathulae Officinalis 10g and Bai Shao Yao Radix Paeoniae Lactiflorae 10g could be added to the prescription to increase the therapeutic effect on the pain.
Four-Marvel Pill. This formula is mainly indicated in downward flow of Damp-Heat. Long Dan Cao Radix Gentianae 5g, Huang Lian Rhizoma Coptidis 5g, She Chuang Zi Fructus Cnidii 10g and Chi Shao Yao Radix Paeoniae Rubrae 10g etc., should be added to clear the Heat, eliminate Damp and relieve the pain.
1. If there is swelling of the penis, add Huang Bai Cortex Phellodendri 10g and Tu Fu Ling Rhizoma Smilacis Glabrae 10g to eliminate Damp-Heat and reduce the swelling
2. If the testicles are painful, add Ju He Semen Citri Reticulatae 10g and Li Zhi He Semen Litchi 10g to regulate the Liver-Qi and to relieve the testicle pain
3. If there is secretion of yellow viscous liquid from the urethral orifice, add Ku Shen Radix Sophorae Flavescentis
