Main formula

Xiao yao san

Free and Relaxed Powder. This formula harmonises the Liver and smoothes the emotions. Chuan Xiong Radix Ligustici Wallichii 3-5g, Yu Jin Tuber Curcumae 3-5g, Pu Huang Pollen Typhae 3g, Chuan Lian Zi Fructus Meliae Toosendan 3g and Xiang Fu Rhizoma Cyperi Rotundi 3g should be added to relieve the pain.

Alternative formula

Chai hu shu gan san

Bupleurum Soothing the Liver Powder. This formula is used to treat the pain due to cancer in the Internal organs resulting from stagnation of Liver-Qi. Yan Hu Suo Rhizoma Corydalis 5g, Yu Jin Tuber Curcumae 3g and Gui Zhi Ramulus Cinnamomi Cassiae 3g, etc., should be prescribed simultaneously.

Acupuncture Treatment

LI-4 Hegu, LR-3 Taichong, LR-5 Ligou, LR-14 Qimen, PC-6 Neiguan, CV-17 Tanzhong and HT- 7 Shenmen. Reducing method is used on these points.

Explanations

▪ LR-3, LR-5 and LR-14 regulate the Liver, smooth the Liver and promote the free flow of Liver-Qi

▪ PC-6 and HT-7 calm the Shen and improve the sleep

Stabbing pain with a fixed location, aggravation of the pain at night or by immobility, alleviation of the pain with activity, hard swelling, hard masses, bleeding with purplish blood, a dark complexion, a purplish tongue and a choppy pulse are symptoms and signs of stagnation of Blood.

Drive out Blood Stasis Below the Diaphragm Decoction. This formula is indicated in the pain due to cancer in the Middle Burner, such as Stomach, Gallbladder and pancreas, etc. Liver cancer could also be treated with this formula.

Shao fu zhu yu tang

Drive Out Blood Stasis in the Lower Abdomen Decoction. This formula is mainly indicated in the pain due to cancer in the Lower Burner, including Kidney, Uterus, ovarian and Bladder, etc, particularly in gynaecological cancers.
