Pain associated with urination
Sweet Dew Special Pill to Eliminate Toxin. This formula is normally used to treat invasion of Wind, Damp-Heat to the general body; it is still a good formula for treating urination pain due to invasion of Damp-Heat. Lian Qiao Fructus Forsythiae 10g, Che Qian Zi Semen Plantaginis 10g, Qu Mai Herba Dianthi 15g and Bian Xu Herba Polygoni Avicularis 12g should be added to eliminate the Damp-Heat and relieve the pain.
Three-Nut Decoction. This formula could also be used to treat urination pain due to invasion of Damp-Heat, and the same modifications should be carried out as for the above formula.
Although both formulas can treat urination pain, the former has a stronger function for clearing the Heat, indicated in invasion of Damp-Heat with predominant Heat, while the latter is more effective at eliminating the Damp, indicated in invasion of Damp-Heat with predominant Damp.
1. If there is much fever and an aversion to cold, add Chai Hu Radix Bupleuri 10g to dispel Wind-Heat and to relieve the External symptoms
2. If there is blood in the urine, add Hu Po Succinum 2g and San Qi Radix Notoginseng 10g to stop the bleeding
3. If there is constipation, add Mang Xiao Natrii Sulfas 10g to clear the Heat and promote defecation
4. If there is a feeling of fullness in the chest and abdomen, add Qing Pi Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae Viride 10g to regulate the circulation of Qi and remove its stagnation.
Qian Lie Xian Wan Prostate Gland Pill.
LI-4 Hegu, TE-5 Waiguan, SP-6 Sanyinjiao, SP-9 Yinlingquan, CV-3 Zhongji, LR-5 Ligou and ST-28 Shuidao. Reducing method is used on these points.
¡ LI-4, the Source point of the Large Intestine channel, TE-5, the Connecting point of the Triple Burner channel, dispel Damp-Heat and relieve External symptoms
¡ SP-6, the crossing point of the three Yin channels of the foot, and SP-9, the Sea point of the Spleen channel, promote the urination and clear Damp-Heat in the Lower Burner
¡ CV-3, the crossing point of the Directing Vessel and the three Yin channels of the foot, and the Front Collecting point of the Bladder, clears Damp-Heat and relieves the pain
▪ LR-5, the Connecting point of the Liver channel, harmonises the collateral, regulates the circulation of Qi in the channel and relieves the pain
▪ ST-28, the local point, promotes urination, eliminates Damp-Heat and relieves urinary pain.
CV-2 Qugu, BL-28 Pangguangshu, BL-31 Shangliao, BL-32 Ciliao, BL-33 Zhongliao, BL-34 Xialiao, BL-40 Weizhong, ST-39 Xiajuxu, KI-5 Shuiquan and KI-10 Yingu, etc.
1. If there is much fever and aversion to cold, add LU-7, the Connecting point of the Lung channel, to eliminate Damp-Heat and relieve the External symptoms
2. If there is blood in the urine, add SP-10 to clear the Heat and to stop the bleeding
3. If there is severe urination pain, add BL-32 and BL-66 to clear the Heat, eliminate the Damp and relieve the pain
4. If there is lower abdominal pain, add SP-8 and ST-40 to regulate the circulation of Qi and relieve the pain
5. If there is constipation, add TE-6 and BL-25 to clear the Heat in the Large Intestine and promote the defecation
6. If there is lower back pain, add BL-23 and BL-58 to regulate the circulation of Qi and to relieve the pain.
A 44-year-old woman had been suffering from urinary pain for about 15 days. She was diagnosed as having acute urethritis and received antibiotics for 13 days, but this did not help her much, so she came to the acupuncture clinic. As well as the urinary pain, she had a fever (38.6°C), frequent urination with a sensation of heat, a bitter taste in her mouth, thirst, low back pain and constipation. Her tongue was red with a yellow and greasy coating and her pulse was slippery and rapid.
Invasion of External Damp-Heat to the Lower Burner.
Clear Damp-Heat, promote the urination and relieve the pain.
TE-5, LR-2, LR-5, BL-64, SP-6, SP-9 and ST-29 were needled daily with reducing method.
▪ TE-5, the Connecting point of the Triple Burner channel, dispels Damp-Heat and relieves External symptoms
▪ LR-2, the Spring point, and LR-5, the Connecting point of the Liver channel, clear Damp-Heat in the Lower Burner and relieve the pain
▪ SP-6, the crossing point of the three Yin channels of the foot, and SP-9, the Sea point of the Spleen channel, promote urination and eliminate Damp Heat
▪ BL-64, the Source point of the Bladder channel, promotes urination and clears Damp-Heat
▪ ST-29 regulates the circulation of Qi in the locality in order to relieve the pain.
After 10 days of treatment, the patient had no more urinary pain.
Symptoms of this condition are a gradual occurrence of scanty and frequent urination with a stabbing and burning pain, and with pain and fullness of the lower abdomen and lower back pain, redness and swelling at the opening of the urethra, accompanied by fever, a bitter taste in the mouth, restlessness, nausea, loose stool or constipation, a red tongue with a yellow greasy coating and a soft and rapid pulse.
Clear the Heat, eliminate the Damp, promote the urination and relieve the pain.
Eight-Herb Powder for Rectification. This formula is good for clearing the Heat, eliminating the Damp, promoting and relieving the urination. Dan Zhu Ye Herba Lophatheri 10g, Pu Gong Ying Herba Taraxaci Mongolici Cum Radice 10g and Chuan Niu Xi Radix Cyathulae Officinalis 10g should be used at the same time to increase the effect of relieving the urination pain.
Four-Marvel Pill. This formula clears the Heat, eliminates the Damp, promotes the urination and relieves the pain, and is mainly indicated in downward flow of Damp-Heat. Besides the painful urination, there are usually some other symptoms, such as redness and swelling in the genitals, leucorrhoea, itching at the genitals, fever, heaviness of the legs, constipation or diarrhoea, etc. Since the main complaint is painful urination, Che Qian Zi Semen Plantaginis 10g, Qu Mai Herba Dianthi 15g, Bian Xu Herba Polygoni Avicularis 12g, etc., should be added to promote the urination and relieve the pain.
1. If there is high fever, add Huang Qin Radix Scutellariae 10g and Zhi Zi Fructus Gardeniae 10g to clear the Heat and to reduce the fever
2. If there is blood in the urine, add Hu Po Succinum 2g and San Qi Radix Notoginseng 10g to stop the bleeding
3. If there is constipation and a feeling of fullness in the abdomen, add Mang Xiao Natrii Sulfas 10g to assist Da Huang in promoting the defecation
4. If there is deficiency of Yin caused by Damp-Heat, manifesting as night sweating, heat in the palms and soles of the feet, thirst and a dry mouth and throat, add Zhi Mu Rhizoma Anemarrhenae 10g to nourish the Yin and clear Deficient-Heat
5. If there is a feeling of fullness in the chest and abdomen, add Qing Pi Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae Viride 10g to regulate the circulation of Qi and remove its stagnation
6. If there is a stabbing pain due to stagnation of Blood, add Hong Hua Flos Carthami 10g to regulate the circulation of Blood and remove its stasis
7. If there is urinary lithiasis, add Jin Qian Cao Herba Lysimachiae 15g to eliminate the stones and promote urination.
Ba Zheng Wan Eight-Herb Pill for Rectification
Qian Lie Xian Wan Prostate Gland Pill.
TE-6 Zhigou, SP-6 Sanyinjiao, SP-9 Yinlingquan, CV-2 Qugu, CV-3 Zhongji, LR-5 Ligou and ST-28 Shuidao. Reducing method is used on these points.
▪ TE-6, together with SP-6, the crossing point of the three Yin channels of the foot, and SP-9, the Sea point of the Spleen channel, promote the urination and clear Damp-Heat in the Lower Burner so as to relieve the urination pain
▪ CV-2, together with CV-3, the crossing point of the Directing Vessel and the three Yin channels of the foot, and the Front Collecting point of the Bladder, clears Damp-Heat and relieves the pain
▪ LR-5, the Connecting point of the Liver channel, harmonises the collateral, regulates the circulation of Qi in the channel and relieves the pain.
▪ ST-28, the local point, promotes urination, eliminates Damp-Heat and relieves urinary pain.
BL-31 Shangliao, BL-32 Ciliao, BL-33 Zhongliao, BL-34 Xialiao, BL-39 Weiyang, ST-29 Guilai, KI-5 Shuiquan, KI-6 Zhaohai, and KI-10 Yingu, etc.
1. If there is high fever, add LI-4, the Source point, to eliminate Damp-Heat and reduce the fever
2. If there is blood in the urine, add SP-10 to clear the Heat and to stop the bleeding
3. If there is lithiasis, add KI-4 and SP-29 to promote the urination, eliminate the stones and to relieve the pain
4. If there is severe urination pain, add BL-32 and BL-66 to clear the Heat, eliminate the Damp and relieve the pain
5. If there is lower abdominal pain, add SP-8 and ST-40 to regulate the circulation of Qi and relieve the pain
6. If there is constipation, add ST-25 to clear the Heat in the Large Intestine and promote the defecation
7. If there is lower back pain, add BL-23 and BL-58 to regulate the circulation of Qi and to relieve the pain.
Urination pain, which may worsen with emotional upset, scanty and frequent urination, or dribbling urination, emotional instability, depression, stress, a feeling of fullness and pain in the chest, lower abdominal pain, palpitations, insomnia, a thin and white tongue coating and a wiry pulse are symptoms and signs of this condition.
Smooth the Liver, regulate the circulation of Liver-Qi and sedate the urinary pain.
Aquilaria Powder. This formula can smooth the Liver, regulate the Liver-Qi circulation, promote urination and relieve the urination pain, indicated in urination pain or difficulty to urinate due to stagnation of Liver-Qi.
