Mucinous Carcinoma of the Breast

Mucinous carcinoma of the breast accounts for about 2 % of invasive carcinoma and tends to occur in older women.


Clinical Features


Symptomatic tumors often present with soft palpable masses.


Mammographic Features


Mucinous lesions are round, oval, or lobular masses. They are usually well circumscribed, but may have indistinct or obscured margins. Calcifications are rare in pure mucinous cancers (Figs. 34.1a, b and 34.2a–c).
