Treatment priorities for individual patients follow best practice within the constraints of a multiple casualty incident:



AIRWAY, with cervical spine control where appropriate

BREATHING, with oxygen where available

CIRCULATION, with control of external bleeding always

Major incident treatment limitations



image Full spinal immobilisation is impractical for all victims of, for example, a rail crash, even though they are exposed to the same mechanism of injury. Clinical judgement must be exercised to a greater extent than in a single casualty blunt trauma incident
