casualty evacuation principles



image There will be a finite number of emergency ambulances available for the evacuation of casualties

image The SILVER AMBULANCE COMMANDER and the AMBULANCE LOADING OFFICER are responsible for the efficient use of available transport for patient evacuation

IMMEDIATE PRIORITY 1



image These casualties should be evacuated by emergency ambulance:

• Where appropriate, consider the use of ambulance helicopters

• Consider the level of escort required (paramedic/nurse/doctor/anaesthetist)

URGENT PRIORITY 2



image These casualties might need to be moved by emergency ambulance, but PRIORITY 1 have precedence (P2 may be moved first if P1 packaging is incomplete)

DELAYED PRIORITY 3



image These casualties often do not need to be moved by emergency ambulance, unless there are adequate resources for all patients: consider alternative means


SILVER COMMANDERS ARE TO ENSURE THE BEST USE OF TRANSPORT AND APPROPRIATE DISTRIBUTION OF CASUALTIES
