Tooth pain
Ligusticum–Green Tea Regulating Powder. This formula could be used to treat tooth pain due to invasion of Wind-Cold. However, some other herbs could be added into the prescription to harmonise the collaterals, promote the circulation in the channels and relieve the tooth pain, such as Hu Jiao Fructus Piperis Nigri 5g, Gui Zhi Ramulus Cinnamomi 6g and Xi Xian Cao Herba Siegesbeckiae 10g, etc.
Schizonepeta and Ledebouriella Tablet to Overcome Pathogenic Toxin. This formula could be used to dispel the External Wind and eliminate the Cold so as to relieve the External symptoms In general, however, its effect to treat the tooth pain is not sufficient, therefore, Hu Jiao Fructus Piperis Nigri 5g, Gui Zhi Ramulus Cinnamomi Cassiae 10g, and Bai Zhi Radix Angelicae Dahuricae 10g could be added to relieve the tooth pain.
1. If the gums are swollen, add Qing Pi Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae Viride 10g to reduce the swelling
2. If there is stiffness at neck, add Ge Gen Radix Puerariae 12g to dispel Wind-Cold and sedate the neck pain
3. If there is much headache, add Man Jing Zi Fructus Viticis 10g and Jue Ming Zi Semen Cassiae 10g to relieve the headache
4. If there is a much cough due to the invasion of the Lung by Wind-Cold, add Ban Xia Rhizoma Pinelliae 10g to eliminate the Phlegm and relieve the cough.
Chuan Xiong Cha Tiao Wan Ligusticum and Green Tea Regulating Pill.
Jing Fang Bai Du Pian Schizonepeta and Ledebouriella Pill to Overcome Pathogenic Influences.
LI-4 Hegu, LI-20 Yingxiang, LU-7 Lieque, ST-6 Jiache, ST-7 Xiaguan and ST-40 Fenglong. Reducing method is used on these points. Moxibustion is applied on LI-4, ST-6 and ST-7.
▪ As mentioned above, when LI-4 and LU-7, the Source point and the Connecting point of the Large Intestine channel and Lung channel respectively, are applied together, their effect in opening the skin pores will be heightened, increasing their effectiveness in dispersing the External invasion. They also have a function in stopping the toothache.
▪ LI-20, together with SP-6 and ST-7, are all local points, regulating the Qi circulation in the vicinity and stopping the tooth pain.
▪ SP-40, the Connecting point, harmonises the collateral of the Stomach to relieve the toothache.
Moxibustion could dispel the wind, eliminate the Cold, harmonise the collaterals and relieve the tooth pain.
SI-18 Quanliao, TE-8 Sanyangluo, TE-9 Sidu, TE-17 Yifeng, TE-20, TE-21 Ermen and TE-23 Sizhukong, etc.
1. If there is an obvious aversion to cold and spasm of the face due to the predominance of the invasion of Cold, apply moxibustion on the ST-36, and add TE-5 to strengthen the effectiveness in dispersing the Cold
2. If there is headache due to slowing down of the Qi and Blood circulation in the head caused by invasion of Wind-Cold, add GB-20 and GV-16 to dispel the Wind-Cold, promote the Qi and Blood circulation in the head and relieve the headache
3. If there is throat pain due to the accumulation of Cold in the throat, add CV-23 to eliminate the Cold and relieve the throat pain
4. If there is a cough and expectoration of white phlegm due to failure of the Lung to disperse the Lung-Qi resulting from invasion of Wind-Cold, add BL-12 and BL-13 to disperse the Lung-Qi and relieve the cough.
Symptoms and signs include acute onset of toothache, aggravation of the pain on eating hot food, and its alleviation with cold food and cold drinks, swollen gums with slight bleeding, fever, an aversion to cold, a cough, throat pain, thirst, constipation, a red tip to the tongue and a thin and yellow coating, and a superficial and rapid pulse.
Dispel the Wind, clear the Heat, remove the Toxin and relieve the toothache.
Cnidium, Angelica and Gypsum Decoction. This formula has some effect at dispelling Wind, clearing the Heat and sedating the tooth pain, but there are not enough herbs to dispel Wind and relieve the External symptoms. Some other herbs can be added into this formula to increase the therapeutic results, such as Sang Ye Folium Mori 10g, Jin Ying Hua Flos Lonicerae 10g, Man Jing Zi Fructus Viticis 10g and Sheng Di Huang Radix Rehmanniae 10g.
Mulberry Leaf and Chrysanthemum Decoction. This formula can dispel the wind, clear the Heat, disperse the Lung-Qi, stop the cough and relieve the External symptoms. However, its effect on tooth pain is limited. To relieve the tooth pain, Huang Qin Radix Scutellariae 10g and Bai Zhi Radix Angelicae Dahuricae 10g could be added.
1. If there is fever due to Wind-Heat invasion, add Ban Lan Gen Radix isatidis 10g and Huang Qin Radix Scutellariae 10g to clear the Heat and reduce the fever
2. If the gums are swollen, add Pu Gong Ying Herba Taraxaci 12g and Ye Ju Hua Flos Chrysanthemi Indici 12g to clear the Heat, eliminate the Toxin and reduce the swelling
3. If there is much headache, add Qing Xiang Zi Semen Celosiae 10g to dispel the Wind-Heat and sedate the headache
4. If there is much cough due to invasion of the Lung by Wind-Heat, add Niu Bang Zi Fructus Arctii 10g and Qian Hu Radix Peucedani 10g to dispel the Wind-Heat, disperse the Lung-Qi and to relieve the cough
5. If there is constipation, add Da Huang Radix et Rhizoma Rhei 10g and Dong Gua Ren Semen Benincasae 10g to clear the Heat and promote the defecation.
Niu Huang Jie Du Pian Cattle Gallstone Tablet to Resolve Toxin.
Yin Qiao Pian Honeysuckle and Forsythia Tablet.
Yin Qiao Jie Du Pian Honeysuckle and Forsythia Tablet to Overcome Toxins.
LI-2 Erjian, LI-4 Hegu, LI-5 Yangxi, LU-7 Lieque, ST-6 Jiache, ST-7 Xiaguan and TE-5 Waiguan. Reducing method is used on these points.
▪ LI-2, the Spring point of the Large Intestine channel, clears and dispels External Heat and sedates toothache.
▪ LI-4 and LI-5, the Source point and the River point of the Large Intestine channel, are able to dispel the Wind, clear the Heat and relieve the tooth pain. LI-4 is especially used to treat External invasion in the upper body. Moreover, this point is effective for relieving the tooth pain due to Excessive factors.
▪ LU-7, the Connecting point of the Lung channel, dispels the Wind and relieves the External symptoms as well as stopping the toothache. When this point is prescribed together with LI-4, it increases its effect of promoting the opening of the skin pores so as to relieve the External invasion. Also, LU-7 is another good point for treating facial and tooth problems.
▪ ST-6 and ST-7 are the local points, and can relieve External invasion and promote the Qi circulation so as to sedate the toothache.
▪ TE-5, the Connecting point of the Triple Burner channel, and the Confluence point with the Yang Linking Vessel, is able to disperse the External Wind-Heat invasion and relieve the toothache.
LU-10 Yuji, LU-10 Shaoshang, GB-20, ST-40 Fenglong, ST-42 Chongyang and ST-43 Xiangu, etc.
1. If there is fresh gum bleeding due to the disturbance of the blood vessels by Wind-Heat, add ST-44 and SP-10 to clear the Heat and cool the Blood. It is advisable to employ the bleeding method on LI-2 to reduce the Heat quickly and stop the bleeding
2. If there is fever due to the invasion of Wind-Heat, add GV-14 and LI-11 to clear the Heat and reduce the fever
3. If there is headache, add GB-20 to relieve the Wind-Heat and sedate the headache
4. If there is a painful and swollen throat due to the invasion of Toxic Heat, add LU-10 to clear the Heat and eliminate the Toxin
5. If there is thirst due to the consumption of Body Fluids by External Heat, add CV-23 and LU-8 to promote the secretion of Body Fluids and relieve the thirst
6. If there is cough and expectoration of yellow phlegm due to the invasion of Wind-Heat to the Lung, add BL-12 and BL-13 to dispel the Wind-Heat from the Lung and relieve the cough.
Symptoms and signs are toothache, swollen and red or bleeding gums, thirst, a dry mouth, a preference for cold drinks, a foul smell in the mouth, constipation, a tendency to get hungry, abdominal pain, restlessness, a red tongue with a yellow and dry coating and a rapid and forceful pulse.
Clear the Heat, reduce the Stomach-Fire, promote the defecation and consolidate the teeth.
