A 41-year-old woman complained of epigastric pain after consuming too much cold food and drink the day before. The pain was constant, with a cramping nature and distension. She also had diarrhoea about five times a day. Her tongue coating was white and her pulse was soft and slightly superficial.

This formula can expel the Wind-Cold from the Exterior and transform the Cold-Damp from the Middle Burner so as to restore the function of the Stomach and Spleen, and stop the pain.
After taking the herbs for only 1 day, the patient found the pain and diarrhoea had disappeared. She was followed up 6 months later and she said she had experienced no pain after the herbal treatment.
