Adolescent Female With Abdominal Pain




A 19-year-old woman presented to the emergency department with a 9-day history of abdominal pain and emesis, with no bowel movements for several days. Her abdomen was distended on examination, without areas of focal tenderness. Symptoms improved with intravenous fluid and ondansetron. Laboratory study results were unremarkable. An acute abdominal series was obtained ( Figure 1 ), followed by computed tomography (CT) of the abdomen ( Figures 2 to 4 ).
